Event Details
On this hike through the Johnson’s Mound Forest Preserve, learn about the process of turning maple sap into maple syrup. Discuss the different tools used to collect sap such as drills, spiles, and sap buckets. Learn the historical and modern methods of tapping maple trees and transforming sap into syrup. The Forest Preserve naturalist also shows you how to identify maple trees and how to make sure that a tree is large enough to sustain a tap or two! Registration required.
